Walsh was tasked with supporting a 15-week build period for Cobalt Place’s structural frame. As a result, we designed with cross laminated timber (CLT) in mind. This ensured successful high speed construction. Our work led to the development of an industry-leading system for analysing sustainability on environmental and economic levels. We now assess the lifecycle impact of embodied carbon on designs on many projects as a result. Cobalt Place is one of our landmark projects, with 104 homes over two residential blocks, thanks to the bespoke framework solution we created that reduced build time. The development was shortlisted in the Community/Residential Structures category of the 2016 IStructE Structural Engineering Awards.
