The Prince of Wales Drive scheme aims to create 839 new homes, retail units, cafes and facilities for the Royal College of Arts. It is destined for a 2.1 Hectare site adjacent to the famous Battersea Dogs and Cats home in South London. The project consists of 11 new buildings with a single basement across the whole site. Walsh delivered a value engineering exercise based on the initial design. Amongst other benefits, our work removed the need for expensive and time consuming complex temporary works. Our solution redesigned the basement to take advantage of existing onsite gas holders during construction. Our work also proposed a draining strategy that included requisitioning an existing sewer to discharge surface water run off to the Thames. We also suggested significant highway improvements to adjoining roads and advised on traffic manoeuvrability through the site.
