The South Lambeth Road development created a 33 storey, 455 room student accommodation block. Plans featured gym facilities and a 15m public swimming pool in the basement. Walsh provided structural design services to realise the architecture and create a locally iconic structure in a cost effective way. The façade is a variegated design of terracotta tiles supported on Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) panels. The plan of the building is a unique triangular shape which addresses the specific confinements of the site’s location adjacent to raised rail lines through Vauxhall. To create this, Walsh undertook the investigation of a triangular structural core. Through our stability analysis and wind tunnel testing, this was determined to be a very efficient design.
