The Southernwood Retail Park, proposed for a busy area in South East London, is currently awaiting planning permission. It will involve demolishing existing retail units to create new retail and residential spaces. The scheme includes around 750 residential units in varying height blocks of up to 48 storeys and a 250 room hotel. Large retail units and a cinema will also be included along with a single storey basement across the whole development footprint. A major constraint for the site is the proposed Bakerloo Line extension. Current proposals are for a station close to the development site and for both tunnels to run directly below the Southernwood site. As a result, Walsh has developed a foundation strategy with the flexibility to respond to London Underground plans. This work has allowed the project to progress ahead of more detailed survey and engineering tasks.
