Temporary phase lines to support construction sequencing and replacement TfL facilities

Walsh were appointed by Barratt Homes, to play a key part in the redevelopment of the Wembley Park site. Sustainability was a key consideration for this project, with the environmental, economic and social effects of the plans being key in the design process.

The site is adjacent to the fully operational TfL/LUL Wembley Park train station which was to remain in operation throughout the works. Existing buildings on the site required demolition including a Train Crew Accommodation (TCA) facility which could not be demolished until the new TCA facilities were opened in Block E. This meant that we had to design the podium and ground floor structures to allow for temporary phase lines to accommodate building the rest of the structures at a later date.

Other site constraints included 1350mm and 575mm diameter Thames Water sewers which are located in Brook Avenue adjacent to the development. So, our geotechnical department carried out a Sewer Impact Assessment to confirm that the proposed works would not adversely affect the existing sewers.

We have also worked with the contractor and client to develop more sustainable mixes, the contractor worked with suppliers to source low-carbon mixes that do not impact on programme.
